Gazela becomes Official Tall Ship of Philadelphia
Dear Supporters & Friends of Gazela,
 
Please mark the date Friday, June 15th on your calendar, for a ceremony to be held at Penn’s Landing, when City Council will present Gazela with a resolution designating her as the Official Tall Ship of Philadelphia.  The tentative time is 11:30 AM.
 
Councilman David Oh introduced this resolution, and it was passed unanimously by council last month.  The Mayor and Members of Council are expected to be present.  Also going on that morning will be a live broadcast by “Ten Live” and “Philly Live”, two locally produced television shows, in conjunction with the upcoming Portuguese Festival to be held on June 17.
 
You are all invited to attend this ceremony, and we hope you can attend.






On the occasion of the celebrations of the Portuguese language and in tribute to the Cape Verdean singer Cesaria Evora, the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) invites you to a concert bringing together artists Angolan Lusophone (Melita), Brazilian (Quarteto Luiz de Aquino), Cape Verde (Orquestra of Teofilo Chantre and Mariana Ramos), Mozambique (Duo Candido and Cecilia), Portuguese (Bévinda) and Sao Tome (Felício Mendes).

This day is intended to promote the Portuguese language, to raise international awareness of the close ties between Lusophone and celebrate the cultural diversity of these countries.
With about 240 million speakers, Portuguese is ranked third in European languages ​​spoken in the world. Language of sailors, merchants and travelers, Portuguese is indeed a language of miscegenation, which has incorporated words from Indian languages ​​of Brazil, is fed from the Arabic in the Iberian Peninsula, has been enriched African languages​​, and appears as a matrix of Creole.

CPLP (Comunidade dos Países of Língua Portuguesa) was formed in 1996 by seven countries: Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, Sao Tome and Principe, joined in 2002 by the Timor-Leste.

A Photo Recap of PPHC's First Ever M | O | D | A Fashion Show

On Sunday, March 25th 2012, M | O | D | A : European Fashion By Portuguese Design took the runway at The Fuge in Warminster, Pa where 500 supporters from across the Philadelphia area filled the chairs for this momentous event. Local vendors showcased jewelry, accessories, home decor pieces and specialty services while wine, provided by NaBrasa Brazilian Steakhouse, was poured along with shots of espresso and bite-sized desserts. 

Three Luso-American designers constructed garments for 28 Luso-American models; each collection unique in every way. Designers Monica Ferreira of Alvanel Designs, Ally Cruz  of Fixe and Alice Taylor with Butterfly, spoke to the audience through video reels, touching on their inspirations, aspirations and dedication to their craft. Click here to view their videos.
