Portugal Day 2012

PECO Multicultural Series Presents: 
The Philadelphia Portuguese Heritge Festival. 

PECO and The Philadelphia Portuguese Heritage Commission in collaboration with The Delaware River Waterfront Corporation (DRWC), is proud to bring you Portugal Day 2012 this year on the Great Plaza, the heart of Penn's Landing, Philadelphia’s premier riverfront entertainment destination. Taking place on the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing, Columbus Boulevard and Chestnut Street on Sunday June 17, 2012, from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. is the Portuguese Heritage Festival. 

The festivities will begin on Sunday June 17th, with a flag ceremony and playing of the national anthems of Portugal and the USA, followed by a blessing of the fleet aboard the Tall Ship Gazela. The Tall Ship Gazela is originally a Portuguese ship that is now berthed at Penn’s Landing.

 
Update: on June 15th, 2012, the Gazela becomes the Official Tall Ship of Philadelphia!

A full day of stage entertainment will begin promptly at 1p.m. All attendees to the festival will have the opportunity to enjoy Portuguese cuisine. everything from BBQ sardines, chicken, pork, to the famous BBQ Chourico. You will have the opportunity to sample Portuguese cheeses and wine, as well as the great tasting Portuguese beer. Activities for the kids will feature a clown, face painting and moon bounce.



The entertainment will feature folk dancing. Live music, from Portuguese Traditional Music, Portuguese & American Rock and Blues. The festival will also feature various Portuguese-American musicians, and various bands coming directly from Portugal. It promises to be an EPIC day of music!
