Biography:

Americo Gouveia Monteiro
Americo Gouveia Monteiro is a Luso-American painter with a specialty in ceramic paintings. Mr. Monteiro was born in Alcobaca, Portugal and has made Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, his home for many years.

Mr. Monteiro is a ceramic tile artist with various exhibitions and expositions held throughout the Luso-American east-coast communities.

1985 - Was awarded "Best work of art" in the Philadelphia Portuguese Club's "Capa do Livro dos 50 anos do PPC" competition.

1987 - His works were displayed in a Luso-American community exposition organized by the Philadelphia Portuguese Club and RP1 Radio

Mr. Monteiro with the Futebol Clube do Porto do Delaware Valley organization, circa 1987. He dedicated the ceramic painting of the team logo hanging on the wall, to the organization that year. Mr. Monteiro is seated directly under the painting.

1989 - participated with his original work "Coroa Real" in the famous exposition "Portugal-Portugal" held in Lisbon, Portugal, where there were art works from all Portuguese communities from around the world. Americo Gouveia Monteiro, represented the Philadelphia Portuguese community.


1989 - His works were displayed at the exposition "Arte Expo" in Newark, NJ.

1990 - His works were displayed in the Newark, NJ Public Library, in an exhibit organized by the Consulate of Portugal in Newark, as part of the Portugal Day celebrations that year.


1991 - Was a participant in the Portuguese Cartography Exposition at Temple University, which was inaugurated by Dr. Joao Pereira Bastos, the Portuguese ambassador to the U.S.. Mr. Monteiro participated with his "Bandeira Portuguêsa" ceramic painting.


1993 - Participated in the first Portugal Day celebration at Penn's Landing, where he presented "Cerâmica Portuguêsa".

1998 - dedicated an original painting of the "Escudo Português" to the Portuguese Consulate of Philadelphia.

1999 - He was awarded the "Medalha da Vila" by the municipality of Oliveira de Frades, Portugal, for his ceramic painting of the town itself. The painting is displayed in the town's historical museum.


1999 - dedicated an original ceramic painting " Armas Reais" (Royal Arms) to the Dukes of Bragranza (Duques de Braganca).

2000 to Present - Mr. Monteiro has organized and presented fantastic art exhibits at each and every Portugal Day festivals held at Penn's landing. He will be there once again this year. Stop by and say hello.

2012 - Held an an art exhibit in the municipality of Oliveira de Frades, Portugal, he was accompanied by the great Portuguese painter, Manuel Cargaleiro
